Unfortunately, scammers are around every corner using any opportunity to target older Americans.\u00a0 The purpose is to get personal or financial information to steal your identity or your money.\u00a0 Here\u2019s how to avoid some scams this open enrollment time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Be on alert if:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Real or impersonated insurance providers offer free gifts or limited-time offers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Free medical supplies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free gifts, asking for your credit card information for shipping costs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"2\">\n<li>You receive a call claiming to be from Medicare, to verify your personal information to issue a \u201cnew\u201d card.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Medicare is not sending out new cards!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Pressure you to buy often worthless supplemental insurance products that will supposedly save thousands.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"4\">\n<li>Medicare will never call you out of the blue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"4\">\n<li>\u201cSpoofing\u201d technology makes it look like incoming calls are coming from Medicare, so your Caller ID is not trustworthy.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can compare plans by going to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicare.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.medicare.gov<\/a>\u00a0or by calling us to refer you to a trusted professional.
