Learn MoreAbout Us
Joseph Voelkl founder of Buffalo Pharmacies, began servicing the pharmaceutical needs of the Buffalo community back in 1955. Through the years, he has taken care of numerous families at all stages of life.
Having seen over the years, many family and friends who have had debilitating life events and the lack of consistent, compassionate and reliable care, he and his sons decided to open Happier at Home to meet these needs. So many families today do not know where to turn with their questions and need assistance keeping their loved ones in their homes. There are many incredible facilities in the community but often the loved one desires to stay in their home. Sometimes loved ones need a little help with medication management, going to the doctor, taking care of their homes and daily chores. We have seen this need and are committed to helping families and their loved ones maintain their independence for as long as possible. We firmly believe and are committed to the saying, ‘There is no place like home’.
Our Happier at Home division will allow us to provide in-home care for seniors and disabled, as well as providing compressive geriatric care management.
The Voelkl family and its team members, are committed to being advocates for seniors and to provide a positive impact in the lives of the disabled, seniors and their families.
Our Team

Joseph Voelkl
Joseph Voelkl, the only son of German immigrants, his father was a butcher and mother was a cleaning lady, instilled in him that hard work and determination will always enable you to achieve your goals and aspirations. With this knowledge, Joseph decided to enroll in Pharmacy School at the University of Buffalo. After becoming a pharmacist, he purchased his first retail pharmacy and grew his business to a total of 8 retail stores now called Buffalo Pharmacies. Recognizing the changes in the Health Care Industry, he has created and adapted his business in the Health Care market to suit the needs of his customers and the Western New York community. Joseph has been fortunate that two of his five children, Trent and Todd, decided to carry on the tradition of compassionate health care. Trent and Todd have both been a part of Buffalo Pharmacies for over 20 years and are committed to carrying on his values and ideals of empathetic care. Today, Buffalo Pharmacies is comprised of retail pharmacies, home medical equipment and provides medications for nursing homes, senior and assisted living facilities.
Joseph has served on numerous boards during his career, including Niagara Lutheran Health Foundation, Hauptman-Woodward, Key Bank, The Buffalo Philharmonic, Erie County Medical Center Lifeline Foundation and is a recipient of the Signum Fidea Award from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.

Trent Voelkl
After attending St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and Canisius College, Trent decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the business in 1994. During that time, Trent oversaw the operations of the Home Medical Equipment division of Buffalo Pharmacies. Several years later, Trent moved up to Vice President of Operations for Buffalo Pharmacies.
Trent has served on numerous boards and been involved in the community serving on the Amherst Police Foundation, Buffalo Zoo Board of Directors, Brother’s of Mercy Foundation, Niagara Lutheran Foundation, Erie County Medical Center Lifeline Foundation and was a Business First 40 under 40 recipient in 1996.

Todd Voelkl
Todd attended St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, Canisius College and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. After gaining experience working for CVS, Todd came to work for his father. After numerous years working in the retail stores, Todd started running the Long-Term Care Division which provides medications for Skilled and Assisted Nursing Facilities.
