Preparing for Virtual Visits

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare practices are implementing virtual visits.  What are virtual visits? They are telemedicine visits using audio or video conferencing apps to connect patients with their care providers online. Using video with these visits make this as much like an in-person office visit as possible. A huge bonus in convenience but be sure that this is the appropriate type of visit for you.  If you feel that you need to be seen in person, voice that to your provider.  When you’re older, it becomes even more important to talk often and comfortably with your doctor. Below are some tips on preparing for virtual appointments to enhance effective communication with your doctor.

  1. Understand the technology:
    • Contact the care provider’s office ahead of time and ask if they have an instruction sheet.
    • Download the platform (FaceTime, Skype or Zoom) you’ll be using before the day of your appointment.
  2. Make sure your connection is stable:
    • Make sure that your device is fully charged.
    • Make sure your internet connection is strong.
    • Sign off other devices connected to the internet
  3. Dress appropriately:
